Building the next generation of social infrastructure
We build the infrastructure communities rely on.
Community Stack operates a portfolio of practitioner communities, runs flagship conferences across the UK and globally, and builds the platforms charities and community organisations rely on to be found, funded, and sustained.
Why We Exist
Communities are infrastructure. The systems supporting them are not.
The Value
Technical communities and third-sector organisations move knowledge, build careers, and reach the people public services and markets miss. They generate substantial economic and social value, and they hold trust networks that institutions cannot manufacture or replace.
The Gap
Yet the systems they depend on are fragile by default. Organisers run critical communities on fragmented tooling that reprices without warning. Charities depend on volunteer capacity to remain visible at all. When a platform shifts terms or a volunteer steps back, there is no continuity layer, the community absorbs the loss, and the people who rely on it lose access.
Our Response
Community Stack exists to close that gap. We operate the communities. We build the platforms. We steward the standards that allow this layer of social infrastructure to function with the seriousness it has always deserved.
The Stack
Six pillars. One coherent system.
Each pillar operates a different layer of community infrastructure, from the communities themselves to the platforms, discovery, and standards that hold them together.
Ecosystem
We own and operate practitioner communities as long-term infrastructure, not as events.
Engine
The operating system for technical communities, events, sponsorship, memberships, and analytics in one platform.
Switchboard
The discovery layer for the third sector. Free, accessible websites and a directory that people can actually search.
Intelligence
Insight drawn from the network, used to support communities, never to direct or extract from them.
Enterprise
Internal community infrastructure for organisations, engineering guilds, communities of practice, and advocate programmes at scale.
Labs
Applied research and national campaigns on digital inclusion, accessibility, and the future of community infrastructure.
Discovery infrastructure for the third sector.
Switchboard gives every UK charity, grassroots group, and community organisation a credible, accessible online presence, and a place in a national directory built for the way people actually search for support.
Free, run to professional standards, and supported as long-term infrastructure rather than as a product release. Built because access to community support should not depend on whether an organisation can afford a developer, or whether the person looking for help happens to be on the right network.
